Basic Instructions for Authors

2.1 this journal exclusively accepts articles authored by Doctors, or co-authored with other Doctors and/or Doctoral students.

2.2 Articles using the author-date system or expressions such as Op.Cit., Idem, and Ibid will not be accepted. Authorship should be indicated in a footnote.

2.3 The submitted article must be original, meaning it should not have been published in any other national or international journal. Similarly, the article cannot be submitted for publication in another journal during the NEJ evaluation process.

2.4 The submitted article can have a maximum of three authors.

2.5 Article Dimension: Articles should have a minimum of 15 (fifteen) and a maximum of 30 (thirty) pages.

2.6 The structured abstract (in Portuguese, English, and Spanish) must be provided in full accordance with the model described in item 4.1.2.

2.7 Manuscripts that do not comply with the formatting guidelines established in item 4 of the "author guidelines" will be promptly rejected.

2.8 Articles must be written in a clear and concise manner, in one of the following languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish, Italian, or German.

2.9 In the case of collaborations written in a different language from the author's, it is MANDATORY to submit a Translation Certificate issued by a Language Center.

2.10 The bibliography of the article should be consistent and demonstrate the perspective of foreign scholars on the subject.

2.11 Article submission limit: Each author (individually or co-authored) may only submit one article simultaneously to the NEJ journal. Authors of articles approved for publication must wait 18 months to submit a new article, starting from the publication date of the issue in which the article appears.

2.12 Responsibility: signed articles are of exclusively responsibility of the authors. The content of the signed articles does not reflect the opinion of NEJ.

2.13 Notification of submission result: Authors will be notified of the evaluation result of their articles via email.

2.14 After submission, the list of authors cannot be altered.

2.15 At the time of submission, the author(s) must indicate in the "comments to the editor" field the research line to which the contribution belongs, accompanied by a brief justification.

3. Evaluation Process

3.1 The decision regarding the publication of articles is made by the Editors based on the evaluation of reviewers, following the "double blind peer review" system.

3.2 The evaluation process consists of two stages:

3.2.1 In the first stage, articles submitted to NEJ are examined by the editors to determine their timeliness, relevance, and alignment with the journal's area of interest, scope, and formatting instructions stipulated in the "author guidelines."

3.2.2 In the second stage, articles approved in the previous stage are sent to reviewers who will evaluate them using the "double blind peer review" system. Reviewers may: (a) recommend publication, (b) suggest necessary adjustments for publication, or (c) reject publication.

3.3 The publication of articles will be subject to editorial considerations.

3.4 The Editors, in collaboration with the Editorial Board, reserve the right to make necessary textual adjustments without compromising the content, aiming to standardize the presentation.

3.5 Articles rejected on their merits in any stage of evaluation cannot be resubmitted for review by the journal.

3.6 The Editors' final decision to reject a manuscript is conclusive, with no possibility of appeal.

4. Article Formatting

4.1 Nature and basic structural elements of the Articles:

4.1.1 Title must have a maximum of 12 (twelve) words.

4.1.2 Articles must contain the following content in the specified order: title (in Portuguese, English, and Spanish), structured abstract and keywords (in Portuguese, English, and Spanish), introduction (should not be numbered), development topics divided into numbered items, final considerations (should not be numbered), and references of cited sources (should not be numbered).

4.1.3 The title and structured abstract (in Portuguese, English, and Spanish) should be concise and objective, containing between 150 to 250 words. The following topics should be highlighted: contextualization of the theme, objectives, methodology, and results. The abstract should be presented as follows:

Contextualization of the theme: Currently, it is not uncommon to come across news reporting the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in areas such as healthcare, communication, engineering, law, among others, demonstrating numerous successful experiences and many more yet to come. However, numerous doubts and questions arise when dealing with the unknown and potentially insensitive world of technology, especially when it involves Human Rights and the fear of acts that may undermine these rights through the use of AI resources.

Objectives: This article aims to discuss the adoption of automated decision-making using Artificial Intelligence in the assessment and management of immigration and refuge, in order to highlight potential risks and offenses to the Human Rights of those involved.

Methodology: Regarding the employed methodology, the inductive method was used in the investigation phase, the Cartesian method in the data processing phase, and the inductive logical base in the results report.

Results: It was found that the ongoing technological revolution represents a promising and positive prospect to the future of various areas of science and humanity itself. However, especially when it involves Human Rights, AI can be a questionable tool, as its use cannot—and should not—deviate from the commitment to respect such rights, thus presenting not only an ethical but also a legal issue.

 

4.1.4 A maximum of five words (in Portuguese, English, and Spanish) should be provided that reflect the fundamental ideas of the text and can guide the research of interested third parties.

4.1.5 The author's identification on the platform should include their academic title, educational institution, city, state, country, and email address.

4.1.6 The introduction should include the presentation of the theme, objectives, research problem, hypotheses, delimitation, and justification.

4.1.7 In the final considerations, the results should be presented objectively, highlighting their contribution(s) to the respective area of study.

4.1.8 The references of cited sources should be listed in alphabetical order by the author's last name and included at the end of the articles.

4.1.9 The topics and subtopics should be clearly highlighted in lowercase letters, bolded, and numbered progressively.

4.2 Basic Structure Formatting of Articles:

4.2.1 The font should be Arial, size 12, with a line spacing of 1.5, justified alignment, and a paragraph indent of 1.25 cm.

4.2.2 The margins should be 3 cm, on A4-sized paper, without spacing before or after paragraphs.

4.2.2 Text editor: Word for Windows 6.0 or later.

4.3 Citations and Notes:

4.3.1 Short direct quotations (up to three lines) should be inserted into the text within quotation marks and without italics.

4.3.2 Long direct quotations (more than three lines) should be presented in a independent paragraph, 4 cm indent left margin, with Arial 10 font, single spacing, and without quotation marks.

4.3.3 Authorship attribution should be made in a footnote using Arial 10 font, and not in an endnote (provide the complete reference of the work in the first citation and subsequently indicate only the author's name, the title of the work, and the page number).

4.3.4 Articles that use author-date format or expressions such as Op.Cit., Idem, and Ibidem will not be accepted.

4.3.5 The titles of works should be bolded, not italicized.

4.3.6 When there is a translation of the text, use "Translation by [Translator's Name]" instead of "Trans."

4.4 Models and Examples of References:

4.4.1 In the first citation: LAST NAME, First Name. Title: Subtitle (if any). Edition (if any). Translation by [Translator's Name] (if any). Place of Publication: Publisher, Publication Date. Page number.

4.4.2 In subsequent citations: LAST NAME, First Name. Title: Subtitle (if any). Page number.
